Northy

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 3, 2026

This version of the Terms of Use took effect on the date shown above, the day it was published.

Northy is operated by Ygor Marushchenko, carrying on business as DNI Systems, a sole proprietorship registered in British Columbia, Canada ("Northy", "we", "us" or "our").

Business, mailing and notice address: 5307 Victoria Drive #595, Vancouver, BC V5P 3V6, Canada.

Telephone: +1 672-380-9060 (text messages only).

Email: support@northyapp.ca.

Northy connects clients with independent home-service providers, called pros. A client posts a job. Pros send quotes. The client chooses a quote and pays by card through the app.

These Terms cover Northy's marketplace, payment administration and support functions. The client and pro enter a separate contract for the work. Northy remains responsible for its own promises and duties under law.

Before your Northy account is created, the app asks you to accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy, which it links to, and you cannot continue without accepting. If you sign in with Google, or with Apple on the iPhone app, that sign-in happens first and your Northy account is created only after you accept. Each job also has its own job terms: the pro accepts them with a tap when sending the quote, and the client signs them, by drawing or typing their name, before paying. If the pro later accepts a new start time, the pro does not sign again. We record which versions you accepted and when. After payment, each party is emailed a copy of the job terms they signed. The app also shows a read-only copy; it has no print or export.

You can browse the available guest areas without an account. Posting, quoting and paying require an account. Browsing does not consent to optional AI processing or other optional uses of personal information.

1. Eligibility and service area

You must be at least 19 years old, wherever you live, and legally able to enter this agreement. The app checks your date of birth against that minimum. If you act for a business or property owner, you must have authority to do so.

At launch, jobs are available everywhere in Canada except Québec. The job's location determines whether it can be posted. A job at an address in Québec cannot be posted or booked through Northy: our server refuses it.

A Québec resident may install the app, sign up and keep an account. They may post jobs at addresses outside Québec or quote on jobs outside Québec, if they meet the other requirements in these Terms. In the app, a pro whose coverage centre is in Québec sees a notice. That notice does not authorize work in Québec or remove the pro's duty to hold the authorizations required where the work takes place.

Northy may open additional areas later. We will announce the area and opening date and provide any required revised terms and language choices before accepting bookings there. An announcement does not change an existing booking or remove a resident's rights under applicable law.

2. Your account

Give accurate account details and keep them current. Take reasonable steps to protect access. Tell support@northyapp.ca promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. We will investigate the report. You are not automatically responsible for every action taken by someone who compromises your account.

You can sign in with an email address and password or with Google, and on the iPhone app also with Apple. New accounts confirm a phone number by SMS, and a number already confirmed on another account is refused. Phone confirmation establishes access to that number. It does not establish trade qualifications or the quality of work.

If you lose access to a sign-in method or phone number, contact support for account recovery. We will use an appropriate way to check your request.

3. The marketplace and the pro's role

Pros offer and perform their own services. The pro is the party responsible for the agreed work. Northy supplies the marketplace and the payment and support functions described in these Terms. Calling a pro independent does not change a status or responsibility that the law determines from the actual facts.

Northy does not promise that every pro will suit your needs or that every job will be free of defects. This does not exclude Northy's own legal responsibility or any specific promise Northy makes. It does not remove a pro's duties, warranties or responsibility for the work.

A phone-confirmation label means only that access to a phone number was confirmed. Stripe identity checks relate to payment-account onboarding. They do not establish a trade licence, insurance cover or work quality. Northy does not check trade licences, insurance or identity documents, and no label in the app means that it did.

4. Pro responsibilities

Before quoting or working, hold every licence, permit and other authorization required for that task and location. Use qualified workers. Obtain the permits for which you are responsible. Follow safety, consumer and workmanship requirements. Perform the agreed work with reasonable care and skill.

Keep any insurance and workers' compensation coverage required by law or by the accepted job contract. Tell Northy and the affected client promptly if a relevant authorization or required coverage expires, is suspended or is restricted. Do not undertake work you are not authorized to perform.

Give accurate business, contact, licence and tax-registration information for quotes and contract copies. Explain the work, materials, exclusions, price, taxes, timing and warranties before the client accepts. You are responsible for the tax and business obligations that legally apply to you. These Terms do not decide employment, tax or workers' compensation status.

Use the app to arrange and take payment for a Northy booking. Do not ask a client to move that booking outside the app to avoid its payment or safety processes. This rule does not restrict unrelated work arising from a pre-existing relationship. It does not prevent emergency contact, required business disclosures, lawful complaints or the use of court, regulator, lien or card rights.

5. Client responsibilities and the agreed work

Only arrange work you are authorized to request. Describe the work and location accurately. Tell the pro about known access or safety restrictions. Be present or arrange access at the agreed time. Treat others respectfully.

Upload only relevant content you have the right to share. Avoid faces, identity documents, access codes and unrelated private information. Review and correct any AI suggestion before submitting a request. An AI suggestion is not a professional diagnosis and does not transfer the pro's assessment duties to the client.

Before you pay, the job terms show the pro's business name, the client's first name, the job's city and province, the start date and time, and one total price, and they include these Terms by reference. The work is the work described in the request and the quote. You can read the job terms and decline before you are charged. To change something, decline and do not pay.

A change to the work, price or agreed dates needs the parties' agreement before the changed work or additional charge. A pro cannot treat the original quote as permission to charge for any later addition.

6. Fees and card payments

All job prices are in Canadian dollars. Card payment through the app is the payment method for a Northy booking.

Northy currently charges no platform commission. The client pays the total in the accepted quote. Northy pays Stripe's card processing fee and does not take it back when a payment is refunded. Nothing is deducted from the pro's payment: the pro receives the whole amount the client paid. Any mandatory charge must be included in the disclosed total before acceptance. A future platform fee will be disclosed and agreed before the affected new booking. It will not be added to an existing booking.

Stripe processes payments through Stripe Connect. Your card is charged the full total when you accept and pay for the quote. Northy delays release to the pro under section 7. A charge to your card, a transfer to the pro's Stripe account and a payout to the pro's bank are different steps.

Pros complete the Stripe onboarding and verification required for their payment accounts and accept the connected-account terms presented to them. Any third-party agreement that applies directly to a client will be identified before the relevant feature is used.

Keep payout details current. If a payout fails, contact support or Stripe through the available account tools. The app shows the payments sent to your Stripe account and the amounts still pending; it does not estimate when money reaches your bank. Bank processing, verification and payment restrictions can affect bank-arrival timing. We will help identify a reported payment problem. Responsibility for a delay depends on its cause and applicable law.

A pro may voluntarily refund a client. Refunds are also made when required by law or by the cancellation and problem rules below. A legally required refund does not depend on the pro's agreement.

Refunds go to the original payment method. Every refund returns the whole payment. The app shows the date a refund was sent, or that it is still in progress. Stripe and the card issuer can take additional time to display the credit. Northy must still meet any refund duty or deadline that applies to it. Contact support if a refund is delayed.

Where the law requires a different deposit, payment or construction holdback arrangement, that rule applies. The ordinary full-charge and release process must not be used to defeat it.

6a. Cancellations and refunds

These app rules apply to a confirmed job paid by card. They are additional protections. They do not replace an earlier or wider right under law.

For the 24-hour and 12-hour rules, the agreed start is the start time recorded when the client paid. The seven-day rule uses the job's current start time. The app shows times in your device's time zone. Simply changing a status does not change the agreed start or count as performing work.

A full refund means the whole job payment taken from the client, including taxes. A processor cost will not be deducted from a refund promised as full.

If the law lets you cancel earlier, you do not have to wait 12 hours, seven days or until the pro agrees. You can give notice using any method the applicable law permits. The app is not the only way to give a legally effective notice.

Any future late-cancellation charge must be disclosed and agreed before the affected booking and comply with applicable law. It will not apply to a booking already accepted.

7. Completion, release and problems

The payment is not released to the pro merely because work starts or the pro finishes. Northy arranges release when the client confirms completion, or automatically, no earlier than 48 hours after the pro hands the job over, if no problem is reported.

The hand-over is the moment the pro marks the job complete in the app. We notify the client of the hand-over. The app does not show the exact release time and sends no reminder before release. A different payment schedule required by law applies instead.

The client can report a problem while the job is waiting for their confirmation. While work is under way, the pro can report that they cannot finish. A report made before release stops the release until the client is refunded, the pro refunds the client, or a person at Northy resolves it. Email support@northyapp.ca if you cannot use the app.

Northy reviews the available evidence in good faith and may refund the client in full. When a problem is reported, we notify the other party, and we notify both parties again on day 3. The report holds a short description; you can send more to support@northyapp.ca. If the problem is still unresolved seven days after the report's time as the app records it, the entire job payment is refunded to the client automatically. When the automatic refund is made, we tell both the client and the pro. If the client confirms completion after reporting a problem, the automatic refund does not apply; a person at Northy reviews the case.

The seven-day rule is a Northy payment rule. It is not a final legal decision about what either party owes. By accepting the job terms, the pro authorizes Northy to administer the disclosed release and refund rules, subject to applicable law.

You may contact support after payment has been released. A refund or recovery after release may require a separate payment process. Confirming completion, silence for 48 hours, payment release and Northy's payment decision do not remove rights concerning defects, warranties, cancellation, card disputes, courts or regulators. Northy's review is not compulsory arbitration.

Chat opens when the job is paid. In it you can send text, photos and a PDF file.

8. Reviews and replies

After a completed job, each party has seven days to leave a review of the other. A review is published the moment it is sent.

The seven days count from the pro's hand-over, so part of them can pass before the job is completed and reviewing opens. The app asks you to confirm your phone number before you leave a review.

Reviews must describe a genuine experience honestly. Do not post fabricated experience, threats, harassment, spam, unlawful content or another person's private information. Any incentive or personal connection that could affect the review must be disclosed. Do not demand a review, a higher rating or removal of criticism as a condition of a refund.

The pro may post one reply to a published review, up to 500 characters, and may edit it for 24 hours after posting it. A review cannot be edited after it is published. A pro's rating is the average of the published client reviews on paid jobs that were not refunded.

To report a review that breaks these rules, email support@northyapp.ca; the app has no button to report a review. A negative opinion alone is not a reason for removal. You may ask support to review a moderation decision.

Published reviews and replies are visible to anyone signed in to Northy. Deleting an account does not remove its reviews or replies. Removing a name does not necessarily make a review anonymous. Do not include private contact details in a review. Any automated filtering can miss information.

9. Conduct and content

Do not commit fraud, threaten or harass others, arrange unlawful work, misuse accounts, disrupt the app, or scrape personal information. Do not use another person's content without permission. Restrictions on technical misuse do not prevent lawful access requests, complaints or criticism.

Use in-app communication for bookings. Northy may filter contact details to reduce misuse. Filtering does not prevent information required by law or needed for an emergency from being exchanged. It is not a guarantee that every private detail will be removed.

Report abuse or a safety concern to support@northyapp.ca. For an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service.

9a. Service operation and account safety

Northy uses fraud and security checks and may temporarily restrict suspicious activity. You can ask support for human review of an account refusal or restriction. Where the law gives rights concerning an exclusively automated decision, those rights apply.

Northy may temporarily pause a feature or region for maintenance, safety or legal necessity. We give reasonable notice where practicable and a practical route to deal with existing jobs, payment issues and records.

10. AI photo suggestions and other AI features

Northy uses AI in four places. The photo suggestion uses job photos to suggest a trade or service category, title and description. The app can also write or tidy a job description from what you type or dictate; it can answer a pro's questions about an open request, using that request's description and up to three of its photos; and it can tidy a pro's work summary.

When you tap Analyze, the selected photos, up to the first three, are sent to Anthropic, PBC, a United States company, which analyzes them for us. Where Anthropic processes them is set out in Anthropic's own published terms. The app asks for no separate consent before sending, and it records no choice: tapping Analyze sends the photos. On the Android app, adding a photo while posting a job also sends it for analysis. You can enter the job details yourself without using AI.

Home photos may reveal people, possessions or other private information. Share only what is needed. AI suggestions may be wrong. Review the category, title and description before using them. A suggestion does not replace a pro's assessment, licence, permit or safe-work duties.

Ordinary photo storage and sharing for a job are separate from AI processing. The Privacy Policy explains both. Northy remains responsible for information processed on its behalf.

11. Ownership of content

Northy and its licensors own the app technology and branding. You keep ownership of the content you submit. You give Northy the limited permission needed to store, display and process that content to provide the services you request, subject to the Privacy Policy.

This permission does not authorize promotional use of your photos or other content. Separate permission is needed for that purpose. These Terms make no statement that Northy's trademark is registered.

12. Third-party services

Northy uses the third-party services identified in the Privacy Policy. An agreement that applies directly to you will be presented for the relevant service. Northy remains responsible for its own duties, including information processed on its behalf. A provider's separate duties do not remove Northy's duties.

13. App availability and warranties

Northy does not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty, duty or remedy that the law does not allow to be excluded.

14. Responsibility for loss

Northy's responsibility is determined by applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits a right or responsibility that the law does not allow to be limited. These Terms do not set Northy's responsibility at zero because the platform charges no commission.

15. Responsibility for your conduct

You remain responsible under applicable law for loss caused by your unlawful conduct, infringement or breach of an agreement. These Terms do not require a client to reimburse Northy for every claim arising from ordinary use of the app or for loss caused by Northy's own conduct.

16. Restrictions, closure and deletion

Northy may restrict an account for a material breach, fraud, safety concerns or legal necessity. We give reasons and a review route where lawful and appropriate. Ending service without user default follows applicable notice requirements. Existing job, payment, record-access and legal rights remain.

You can request deletion in Profile or email support@northyapp.ca. We check the request appropriately: in the app, you type your full name and enter a six-digit code sent to your account email. Once you confirm the request, your account is deactivated at once and your open requests and quotes are closed. The Android app then signs you out; the iPhone app keeps you on a screen where you can reactivate the account or sign out.

There is a 30-day recovery period. Reactivation requires an explicit choice: the Reactivate button. Signing in during those 30 days only shows that screen; it does not cancel deletion. Cancelled requests or quotes are not restored by reactivation.

Closing an account does not itself settle an accepted job, erase a debt or remove a refund right. We explain how existing jobs and payments will be handled and how you can obtain records through support. You cannot delete your account while a job is booked or in progress, or while a payment, payout or refund for it is still being settled; the app tells you why.

After the 30 days, your account and the information listed on the Delete-account page are deleted, and the records it lists as kept remain. Those records can still name the parties. Their retention is different from publishing a review. The Delete-account page explains the process.

17. Applicable law, rights and language

For a consumer, these Terms are governed by the laws of their province or territory of residence and applicable federal law, without removing other mandatory protections. For business use, applicable law determines the parties' rights. A party may use any court or tribunal with jurisdiction under law.

Both English and French versions are provided. Each signed job record identifies the version and language of the job terms. Neither language is given blanket priority. Where a province's law requires the French version to be provided first, that requirement applies before an express choice to contract in English. Where French is required and no valid choice of English has been made, the French version governs. Where the law lets a person rely on the more favourable version, that right governs. Otherwise, the validly selected contract language governs, subject to applicable law.

18. Changes to these Terms

Northy may propose changes. When a change needs your agreement, the app asks you to accept the new version, with links to it, the next time you open the app, and you cannot continue until you accept. A material change applies to you only after you expressly accept it, except where the law itself requires a different result. Merely continuing to use Northy is not acceptance of a material change.

You may refuse a proposed change and close your account without a charge for refusing. We will explain any effect on future use. Restrictions on new use or ending service must follow applicable notice and other protections. You retain a practical way to obtain existing job records, resolve payments and contact support.

A change does not alter the terms, price, cancellation rights or remedies of a job already accepted. That job keeps its accepted terms unless the client and pro agree to a lawful change or the law requires otherwise. Closure does not erase existing rights or obligations.

Any new platform fee must be disclosed before the affected future booking and agreed as required by law. We keep a record of each version you accepted and when. Nothing here limits a statutory refusal, cancellation, refund or other right.

We may need to obey a new law or temporarily restrict an unsafe feature immediately. That does not create a general power to impose a new contractual burden without the required notice and agreement.
